I’m As High As A Summer Breeze came out of messing around with weird Joni Mitchell tunings and landing on some onomatopoeic conversation between words and music and instruments and inner and outer landscapes. Jon plays a nylon stringed classical guitar here as well as melodica, which in some states requires a permit for both open and concealed carry.

The Numbers by Radiohead became an obsession sometime in the summer of 2022, specifically a version of Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood playing it live. In August I sent Jon a rough mix of me playing acoustic guitar, my 1928 Bacon and Day Señorita, and a vocal track and some harmonies, and left for the back country in Southwest Montana. When I came back into cell range four days later the song had bloomed like the desert in spring, and had taken on a whole new sense of wonder and meaning. Even after ten years the alchemy of Jon’s playing and production continues to astonish me.
